The school's mission states that "San Francisco Day School educates, nurtures, and inspires girls and boys of diverse backgrounds to achieve their highest academic and creative potential, to embrace ethical values, and to become active contributors to their communities." Each child is valued as a unique person with individual gifts and talents. Every aspect of our program, from the strength of the academic program to the commitment to the arts, development of physical skills, and service learning, is built upon our philosophy and goals for students. Our program teaches mastery of reading, writing, and mathematics together with problem solving, critical thinking, and creative expression. SF Day utilizes Universal Design for Learning to ensure curriculum is accessible for all learners. Strong commitment to ongoing curriculum refinement and assessment coupled with differentiated instruction are central elements of our instructional pedagogy. All students study art, music, outdoor education, and physical education in addition to language arts, social studies, mathematics, world languages, and science. Students are encouraged to be active participants in every aspect of school life, as well as to contribute to the greater good of the SF Day community, and the world beyond the walls of our school.
