High School Counseling

San Francisco Day School offers a comprehensive high school counseling program beginning in the springtime before eighth grade. Our Director of High School Counseling hosts an information session for students and families to launch the process and then schedules individual meetings with each family. The purpose of these meetings is to open the discussion, share interests and future goals, and prepare for the journey of self-discovery ahead.

During eighth grade, students attend a high school counseling class to review the various steps involved in the application process, talk about visit expectations, and share experiences and reflections. Additionally, admission professionals are invited to present their diverse perspectives on making the high school match.

The Director of High School Counseling communicates regularly with families to provide updates and reminders, and encourages students to check-in frequently, which has proven to be an effective way to nurture our school’s culture of mindfulness.
