Congratulations, JV Volleyball Champs!
May 15, 2017

This year's Boys' JV Volleyball team was a wonderful mix of green 5th graders, a steady 6th grader, and three wily vets from 7th grade. They all came together and started the season off with a loss to MCDS back early March. The hope for all seasons is a championship but the true goal is measured improvement. I am so proud to say that our team got both this year.
In the first round of the playoffs, our team faced a Town team that had beaten them a week earlier. That loss proved to be powerful motivation - the team used consistent serving and three touch ball movement to crush any thoughts of a Town repeat performance. They dominated in two and left no doubt that they heard their coaches' message about playing with intensity.
The only thing left for the team to do was to avenge their only other loss from the beginning of the season in the championship game. Just as in their game against Town, our JV team got off to a fast start. They never looked back in the first set and dominated the MCDS team. The second set saw MCDS come out aggressive and take the early advantage. The Phins held strong and never blinked. Everybody found their way in the rotation and helped the comeback. A scorekeeper error neglected to give the team a well-deserved point at 20-17. This only delayed the inevitable, as the team won in two. Congrats to the team and to their coaches!
