Service Learning

One way the School supports its mission is through service learning. Service learning is a teaching and learning strategy that combines the principles of experiential learning with service to the community. The School’s values of compassion, integrity, and responsibility are the driving force behind service learning activities.  Through the work, students see that they are part of a larger community and in which they have responsibilities and also develop a sense of stewardship. To this end, the lower school service opportunities have included class projects as well as activities conducted with a buddy. Projects have included but are not limited to:

  • Third grade read-a-thon to raise money for Room to Read, a local charity that promotes literacy programs in Central Asia
  • First grade students passing out fliers to inform neighbors of school events
  • Kindergarten and eighth grade buddies doing a neighborhood walk and cleanup
