After-School Enrichment Program (AEP)

Welcome to AEP!

After your children finish another memorable day at school, we are happy to provide a safe and supportive environment at AEP. With a busy and structured school day, we believe that the students are best served by having the freedom to just play, often a rarity in today’s world. We define play as “freely chosen, personally directed and intrinsically motivated” (Playwork Principles). With expansive outdoor play spaces, an inviting loft, a Design Space, and plenty of room for fun, students can work and play at their own pace to explore the limitless possibilities of their creativity.

To enroll or learn more about AEP and additional after-school offerings, contact Rob Eifler, Director of After-School Programs (reifler@sfds.net) or 415-568-3650.

The Upper School Commons is available for students in 5th-8th grade.  There is a flat rate of $300 per semester.

To register your child for either lower school option and/or the Upper School Commons, please email Rob Eifler (reifler@sfds.net).

Late night AEP is also available for the following:

  • All PA Diversity & Inclusion events
  • Other late night AEP childcare will be communicated via event organizers.
How is billing handled?

Billing is handled on a monthly basis.

If you do not receive a bill, your account is current for the next monthly billing cycle. It is necessary to keep your account current. If your account is not current, your child may lose the privilege of using AEP.

Is there a specific age range?

AEP activities are designed primarily for children in grades K-4, however, all grades are welcome.

What is the Sign-In/ Sign-Out Policy?

Students are required to sign in at their time of arrival and departure. If this information is not provided, parents will be billed for a full AEP day.

Does AEP offer classes or homework support?

In addition to after school care and supervision, AEP also offers enrichment classes, individual music instruction, and homework support.

Enrichment Classes (Grades K-8)

Students may enroll in individual enrichment classes such as woodworking, Spanish, chess, yoga, tennis, Tree coding, and robotics. Students may combine daily attendance at AEP with participation in enrichment classes. Classes may vary from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. Click here for descriptions.

Individual Music Instruction (Grades K-8)

Students may enroll in individual music instruction for guitar, bass guitar, ukelele, and drums. If there is an instrument your child is interested in that not listed, please contact Rob Eifler to explore the option of adding the instrument to the AEP individual music instruction program. The fee for individual music instruction is $40 per half-hour. Click here for more information and to sign up.

Homework Café (Grades 4-8)

Homework Café is a quiet study space available from 4:00-5:00 p.m. daily. Students who are invited by their teachers to join Homework Café will have an opportunity to work with an instructor. Students who prefer to work on school assignments in a quiet space will be permitted to study in this location as well.

The Upper School Commons (Grades 5-8)

Every school day from 3:30-6:00 p.m., older students are welcome to join the US Commons for homework, a snack, and more structured, student-centered learning activities.  The fee for the Upper School Commons is $300 per semester (discounted tuition rates apply). To register, contact Rob Eifler.

How do I sign up for enrichment classes?

To sign up for enrichment classes, please email your preferences to Rob Eifler, Director of After School Programs, at reifler@sfds.net

Can students use the Design Space in AEP?

During the week, AEP offers "Open Lab" dates to allow students to freely explore the Design Space in AEP time. Students are supervised by a teacher and are kept in a 1:11 teacher:student ratio.  This time is charged at the regular AEP rate and does not require any additional fees.  However, we cannot guarantee that each student will have an opportunity to use the space on any given day.  We rotate grade levels and students during the week to ensure each student is given equal access to this space after school.

Open Lab dates:  Thursdays 3:00-6:00 p.m. (K-8) & Fridays 3:00-6:00 p.m. (K-3 only)
