Step 1: Inquiry

Thank you for your interest in San Francisco Day School! Please note that the online Inquiry Form is now closed for Fall 2017.  

In September 2017, the Inquiry Form for Fall 2018 will be available for completion. You will receive your assigned account name and password within 48 hours after submitting your inquiry so that you can begin signing up for admission events. We look forward to learning more about you and your family.

Step 2: School Visits

We invite you to visit our school campus, so that you can experience firsthand a "day in the life" of an SFDS student. Below is a list of various opportunities for you to tour the school and begin your journey.  We look forward to meeting you and your family!

Step 3: Application

Application for entry in fall of 2017

You can complete your application as early as September 2016. Completed applications along with the application fee ($100*) and a recent family photo are due on Friday, December 16, 2016 by noon to be reviewed by the Committee for a first round of decisions in March 2017.

Note: SFDS student enrollment in grades 1-8 depends primarily on attrition. We do not expand our class size in grade 6.  For grades 1-8, rolling applications will be accepted throughout the year in the case of unexpected attrition.

Step 4: Required Documents

Student Evaluation Form (required; due by December 16, 2016)

Provide a signed Student Evaluation Form* to your child’s current AND former teachers.  Ask them to scan and email it to admission@sfds.net** or mail to:

School Record Release Form (required)

Submit a signed Record Release Form to your child's current school office.

Step 5: Meetings

Student Visits and Parent/Guardian Meetings

Parents and guardians of applicants to grades 1-8 are welcome to make an online reservation for school visits, tours, open houses and/or receptions. Those who have submitted complete applications for grade levels in which we anticipate an opening may be invited for a Student Visit and a Parent/Guardian Meeting with the Lower School Division Head (Sue Collentine). Note these are two separate meetings.  If space allows, we will invite your child for a full day visit in January or February, which they will spend with their current grade level.  After March, we may invite those who elect to stay in the wait pool.

Below is the process for your reference; please note these dates will be refreshed in September for the Fall 2018 admission season. 

  • Complete online Inquiry Form in September for Fall 2018. You will receive your assigned account name and password within 48 hours after submitting your inquiry so that you can begin signing up for the admission events below.
  • Make an online reservation for a School Tour. (recommended)
  • Make an online reservation for an Open House. (optional)
  • Make an online reservation for a Winter Reception. (optional)
  • Submit signed Record Release Form to your child's current school. (required)
  • Submit signed Student Evaluation Form* to your child's current and last years’ teacher(s). (required)
  • Complete online Application with family photo by December 16, 2016. (required)

Note: You will be contacted in January by our admission team to schedule a Student Visit and Parent/Guardian Meeting only if we have available space for the grade to which you are applying.  For grades 1-8, rolling applications will be accepted throughout the year in the case of unexpected attrition.
