Kindergarten Sibling, Faculty & Staff Early Applicants:

Who is considered a sibling/faculty applicant to kindergarten?

1) Sibling of current students.
2) Child of a current full-time faculty or staff member.

San Francisco Day School works closely with families of siblings, faculty, and staff applying for kindergarten throughout the month of November. This provides our school the time to partner with families as we work together to determine the best kindergarten outcome for each individual child.

We encourage you to note the key dates we have set aside specifically for our sibling, faculty, and staff applicants. If you have a child who will turn 5 years old by August 1, 2018, your child is eligible for our early admission kindergarten process.

1st-8th Grade Sibling, Faculty & Staff Applicants:

Enrollment in grades other than kindergarten at San Francisco Day School is dependent on available spots and grade level fit. Our sibling, faculty, and staff applicants to grades 1-8 will be considered in the same pool as all of our other 1-8 applicants and decisions are shared in March. To complete your application process, please visit our application page after September 1, 2017.

Step 4: K Sibling/Faculty/Staff Visit Day: Friday, November 11, 2016

On this day, we'll welcome two groups of children to come meet with us at SFDS. On this two hour visit, your child will have the opportunity to spend time with our teachers in both small group and individual one-on-one activities. We generally divide the applicants into two groups inviting one group at 8:00 a.m. and another at noon. You can indicate your flexibility by using this form: Choose your time

Group 1:  8:00-10:00 a.m.
Group 2:  12:00-2:00 p.m.

As part of our admission process, we often reach out to your child's preschool by phone or by an in-person visit in November. The purpose of this conversation or visit is to learn more about how children are engaging in a more familiar setting with their teachers and friends.

Sibling/Faculty/Staff Admission FAQs
  • When are decisions made for kindergarten sibling/faculty/staff applicants?  Kindergarten decisions are sent electronically two to three weeks after the visit.

  • What if my child is a sibling transferring at a grade other than kindergarten?  Our main entry point is kindergarten. For enrollment into grades other than K, acceptances are primarily based on attrition and fit. For transfer siblings, we ask that you inform the admission office by email, and then visit the Grade 1-4 Applicants or Grade 5-8 Applicants pages for more information regarding the process.

  • When are decisions made for 1st-8th grade applicants?  Our sibling, faculty, and staff applicants to grades 1-8 will be considered in the same pool as all of our other 1st-8th grade applicants and decisions are shared in March, along with discounted tuition amounts. Sometimes spaces may open up after March and we will inform families who may be waiting to hear from us later in the year.

  • If we are applying for Discounted Tuition, will we know the amount of discount with our decision in November? Our Discounted Tuition allocations will be determined by March. For families already receiving discounts, the percentage discount will be similar to previous years if the income remains the same. Visit our Discounted Tuition page for more specific information. You are also welcome to contact our business office for more specific questions regarding your family's situation. All discounted tuition allocations and decisions are handled by SSS and our business office.

  • What should I do to prepare my child for the kindergarten sibling/faculty visit? Please make sure that your child has had a good night's sleep and has eaten well prior to their visit with us. Sometimes children may appear more shy or reserved in a new environment, like when they visit with us at SF Day. Should that happen, please do not worry. We will be sure to spend more time to learn about them by visiting their school environment. There is nothing you will need to do for this follow up visit.

  • Is the sibling process different than the regular admission process? The criteria are the same, although we do review the candidacy of the kindergarten sibling and faculty/staff children earlier in the season in order to make informed decisions about fit and placement.

  • What does it mean if we receive a "too young" letter? Children applying to SF Day kindergarten must turn 5 before August 1st. Every year we have children entering our kindergarten class who have turned 5 and others who have turned 6 in the months of June or July. However, every child's development is unique. If we find that your child may benefit from another year of social and academic growth prior to joining our kindergarten program, we are happy to share with you the reasons why.
