The Library Party is a family event, with readings, food, entertainment, and lots of books that raises funds to benefit the library. All book lovers look forward to the annual Library Party. With an enormous selection of adult and children's books, one can easily spend the entire day in the gym perusing the tables of good reads. Books are available for purchase or for donation to the library collection. If you love books or have always wanted to experience retail work, we've got plenty of volunteer opportunities that begin one to two months before the event.

Each year a committee of volunteers select the "Adult Picks" and the "Children's Picks." Their selections always include classics, fiction, non-fiction, best-sellers, etc. Once the books start arriving at the school, more volunteers come in to sort and chronicle them so they're ready for checkout on the day of the event. We also need parents for data entry, decorations committee, food committee, and sales. If you've got an idea for a speaker, or you know of anyone with amazing talent who may want to come to the Library Party to sign books or share a reading, please let us know.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

March 12, 2010

For one day each year, we invite grandparents and special friends of lower school students to experience what it's like at the Day School. This is the one day when there are more adults in the building than children! Along with a musical performance, the students invite their guests into the classroom. This is a good opportunity for them to show off all the different things they're studying, their teachers, and classmates. As a souvenir to remember the day, iphotos are taken of students and their grandparents or special friends. We often hear from alums who remind us how meaningful their collection of Grandparents Day photos is.

Because Grandparents and Special Friends Day involves so many people, it's an event that requires many volunteers. Volunteers recruiting begins three to four months before the event. We're looking for help with everything from mailings to food to parking lot assistance and photography.

CultureFest

May 1, 2010

This spring party is the School's largest fundraising and community building event of the year. The auctions and evening party celebrate a different culture each year, and bring the majority of the parents and faculty members together around the cause of discounted tuition. We need both the volunteer efforts of all of our parents and their attendance to make this annual event successful.

In order to have a successful CultureFest, we need volunteers to solicit auction items for our online auction. The School sets up neighborhood task forces to go around to various merchants soliciting donations and gift certificates. We send letters to restaurants, hotels, and any vendor who has donated in previous years. We also look to our own school community’s resources. The soliciting continues over several months. While securing auction items, committees are established for everything from decorations, food, thank you note writing, and entertainment. Simultaneously, we look to the parent body for help with invitation design and program design.
