Day School Summerbridge is an academic support and enrichment program for rising
5th and 6th grade San Francisco students. During the summer, highly motivated
college and high school students teach rigorous academic courses to our student
body.
We also offer academic and non-academic electives, field trips, guest speakers
and more! The DSSB community fosters enthusiasm for learning, and you can be
a part of this!
What is a Volunteer Teaching Assistant?
Volunteer
Teaching Assistants (VTAs) are carefully selected to take on the following responsibilities:
pairing up with a head teacher to assist him/her in lesson planning, classroom
management, grading papers, and all other aspects of teaching
having an active role in organizing and facilitating field trips and special
events
being an active member of at least 2 committees
supervising recess & lunch breaks, as well as the after school program
filling a time commitment of about 40 hours per week
VTAs
may be eligible to fulfill their school’s community service requirements
with these hours. The applicant must be able to attend the training week of
June 11, as well as commit to volunteering for at least four of the six week
summer program. It is an intense, challenging summer but a very rewarding one
and a great opportunity to take a leadership position! Please call Elizabeth
at the DSSB office, 931-2422 ext. 141, with any questions or concerns.
