Job Description

Job Title: Volunteer Mentor

Purpose (the result the job is supposed to accomplish):

To mentor and be a positive role model to Summerbridge students through my behavior, attitude and intellect. To help my student(s) gain self-confidence and knowledge during the Summerbridge after school program. To teach my students valuable academic skills through structured tutoring and enrichment classes.

Specific Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities (what you need to do to accomplish the purpose, what is expected of you):
  • Help students with their daily homework assignments
  • Encourage good study habits
  • Model good behavior at all times
  • Create and carry out engaging and educational activities
  • Build a personal relationship with my student(s)
  • Foster learning at all times
  • Express enthusiasm for school and Summerbridge
  • Help students with organization including binder, homework assignments, books and backpacks
  • Make my student(s) accountable for their grades and behavior
Measures (how we will tell if the purpose is being achieved):

Volunteer feedback, student report cards, parental input, teacher input

Qualifications (skills needed, experience, etc.):
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and learning
  • Creativity
  • Energy
  • Positive attitude
  • Compassion
  • Dedication
Time commitments:

At least one day a week from 3:45 to 5:45pm. Additional time will be needed for planning for tutoring activities. Opportunity to teach full-time during the summer session.

Support (available resources and supervision):

Nicole and Elizabeth will provide training, supervision, guidance and support.
