Double Hit: Library Party & Family Photo Night

Books flew off the tables at the Library Party on its first day, thanks to extra foot traffic generated by Family Photo Night.

This year was a test run for combining the two events. Although the decision to couple the two events was initially met with a a great deal of uncertainty, the early numbers and the general feeling of goodness in the air suggested a resounding success.

“It’s great that it could be combined with Family Photo Night,” said Ellen Haller, a fifth-grade parent, who was browsing the book tables. “It certainly made it easier for me as a parent.”

Susheela Vasan, a seventh-grade parent whose book-selling company, GiftLit, had a table in the gym, noticed the difference in attendance. “It’s great there were a lot of dads here. The evening looked really successful.”

Janet Hall, who co-chaired the event with Rebecca Sheehan and Natalie Rome, said she was “bowled over” by the numbers of people coming into the gym at times. “This makes so much sense. There’s something for people to do while they’re waiting for their photo to be taken.”

She said early indications showed better-than-expected sales for the event, which raised over $20,000 last year for the SFDS Library.

Family Photo Night helped make the event a night to remember with over 150 families, meaning over 450 smiles, gracing the first floor of our School. The excitement was palpable during this event that honors the many faces of our SFDS community. The photos will be displayed on the School bulletin boards in November.
