Greetings,
Welcome to the third issue of the new on-line version of the SFDS Parents Association Newsletter. This newsletter is published at the end of every month. In large measure because of the vision of our two editors, Debbie Symanovich and Joanne Lew-Riley, we have been able to bring the SFDS parent body something different – a newsy, fun-to-read publication that shows what is going on in our community at a grassroots level. Call Debbie or Joanne if you know about something that you think we might all enjoy. It can be serious or it can be fun – all stories considered!
It has come to my attention that many people in our community don’t know what the Parents Association is or what it does. The short answer is that it is all of us – coordinated by four officers. Yes, you are a member of the Parents Association! We oversee 24 different activities throughout the course of the year and rely on committee chairs to make these experiences successful. The Parents Association builds community by such events as the Fall Picnic, Concert for Community, the Library Party, CultureFest, and in many smaller ways. We show support for faculty and staff with the Staff Appreciation Dinner and Faculty Treats. In addition to me, this year’s officers are Diana Wolf, Liz Kind and Rich Lew. Find us! Talk to us! We want to hear your ideas.
I hope this third Parents Association newsletter provides a few moments of respite from the business of the pre-holidays, as it did for me. What an inspiration to read about twenty SFDS families who bunked and skied together for a weekend. And a look at those cute Halloween pictures reminded me of what amazing traditions we have here at SFDS. My son will never get over having a Head who is Yoda, if only for a day.
