Film Screening: American Promise
6:00-9:00pm, SFDS Gym
A documentary 14 years in the making, American Promise provides a rare look into the lives of two middle-class Black families as they navigate the ups and downs of parenting and educating their sons. We see the boys start kindergarten together at The Dalton School (a private, co-educational school on New York City’s Upper East Side) and follow their journey through high school graduation. This film won a special jury award for achievement in filmmaking at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, among other accolades. The screening will be followed by a 20-30 minute facilitated discussion.
