2006 ALSC Book Awards


John Newbery Medal
The Newbery Medal honors the year's most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.The recipient must be a citizen or resident of the United States.

Randolph Caldecott Medal
The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

Coretta Scott King Award
The Coretta Scott King Award is presented annually by the Coretta Scott King Task Force of the American Library Association's Ethnic Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table ( EMIERT). Recipients are authors and illustrators of African descent whose distinguished books promote an understanding and appreciation of the "American Dream."

Mildred L. Batchelder Award
The Mildred L. Batchelder Award is a citation awarded to an American publisher for a children's book considered to be the most outstanding translated book of the year.

Pura Belpre Medal Winners

Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award

This award is for the most distinguished informational book for children published in 2001.

The Jane Addams Children's Book Award is presented annually by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) and the Jane Addams Peace Association to the children's book that most effectively promotes the cause of peace, social justice, and world community.
