Fall 2007
Dear Parents,
On behalf of the admission committee, our faculty, staff, and parent community, I welcome you to the admission process at San Francisco Day School. Over the next several months we will get to know you and your child, and we hope you enjoy doing the same with us. We do our best to keep the process clear and manageable, starting with the contents of the admission pages here on the web site. The admission process overview and admission checklist are two important pieces of information you’ll want to keep easily accessible. On this web site you can also learn about the curriculum and program, the school life of our students, and read about alumni. The viewbook, which you will receive at the Open House, will give you a good overview of what life at SFDS is like for students and parents, as well as alumni information, parent volunteering opportunities, and statistical information about the School.
As you begin to get to know SFDS over the coming months, I encourage you to think about the following questions:
Can I imagine my child in the San Francisco Day School environment:
- Working collaboratively with other boys and girls in the SFDS classrooms?
- Reading in the Library’s Book Nook?
- Performing in the Gym/Performing Arts Center?
- Competing on an SFDS sports team in the Independent School Athletic League?
- Creating art work inspired by the Artist-of-the-Month program?
- Playing on the rooftop and ground-level play yards, or across the street on the USF field?
And ask yourself: Do I feel comfortable as a parent/guardian here? |

To help you answer that last question, you will have the chance to meet many current SFDS parents along the way. Take advantage of this opportunity and ask questions! Current parents offer a perspective on life at SFDS that includes their child’s as well as their own experiences: volunteering in and out of the classrooms, helping to raise funds for the School and our tuition assistance program, and attending morning coffees and a wide variety of social events for the SFDS adult community. The admission process at SFDS strives to find students and families who will be well served by the School and who find our school to be the best match for them. We encourage you to think actively about this match as you evaluate all the schools in which you are interested.
While the San Francisco independent school admission process can seem daunting, I will do my best to create as smooth and enjoyable an experience for your family as possible. This process gives you an opportunity to look at your family and ask some very important questions regarding your priorities when choosing a school. The school staff, parent volunteers, and I are here to help in any way that we can. Please don’t hesitate to contact us when you need guidance.
