Upper-school students in 6th through 8th grades are assigned to a
grade-level advisory group of seven to nine students. These groups
meet with their advisor, one of the upper-school faculty members,
several times a week during a morning homeroom period.
The goals of the advisory program are to develop the schoolwide
values of compassion, integrity, and responsibility and to encourage
students to build friendships, take positive risks, and manage stress
and peer pressure.
The advisor serves as the liaison between parents and the
upper-school faculty, transmitting information to both parents and
students about academic, social, and emotional issues. At parent
conferences, advisors share information from the child's various
teachers and discuss strategies to improve student performance.
Advisory groups discuss study skills, time management strategies,
community values, and peer relationships, and work on service
projects together.
