Sisyphus By R.S. Sisyphus was a very interesting man, in ancient Greece, with many stories, Characteristics, and roles. Sisyphus being a cunning trickster is surprising because as the king and founder of the city of Corinth he had a lot of responsibility. On the other hand, his cunningness is not surprising because he was the cleverest of all kings. Sisyphus’s fathers name was Aeolus and his son’s name was Glaucus. In this story, Sisyphus fools, tricks, and lies to the gods to get what he wants, for which Hades gives him a never-ending punishment. This punishment is very frustrating and hard for Sisyphus. It was pushing a gigantic bolder up a mountain and just when he was just about to get to the top, the rock slipped and he would have to start all over again. Sisyphus’s life was very important to the ancient Greeks because is showed them sinning can get you nowhere and earn you a punishment that can last forever. I think that by telling this story to their young, people teach them not to sin, and perhaps they scare them into being good with this story. Sisyphus’s punishment led us to make a word for a job that can never be completed this word is Sisyphean. <http://school.eb.com/eb/art-14371/The-punishment-of-Sisyphus-detail-of-a-painting-on-an?&articleTypeId=1> |
