Hephaestus By W.C. A very important god for Ancient Greece was Hephaestus, because was a black smith with great talent, creativity, and ability. Hephaestus had different talents than his brothers, sisters, and parents (Zeus and Hera). His brothers were all in war and have the strength of ten men. But his sisters were related to nature, gardens, fruit, and wine. His parents also had to do with nature; Zeus was the god of the sky and earth. Hephaestus was related to other things as well. He helped the Ancient Greeks in war by making weapons and armor. He made many things for the Greeks that nobody else could have made. For instance he made thrones for the gods and goddesses of Olympus. He also made weapons and armor for warriors in the Troy war. Hephaestus was important to the Greeks because he made them advanced in their buildings, armor, and weapons. Before Hephaestus was alive the Greeks were not as advanced because they used chain mail and other armor that didn’t protect them well enough, instead of armor that covered their whole body that Hephaestus made. He also made weapons that helped them with both hand-to-hand and long range combat. When the Ancient Greeks didn’t have advanced armor most likely more soldiers died in war than they would have if they had full body armor. Also since they lose more soldiers then they have to pay more money towards the army. When Hephaestus started making armor and weapons, he may not have known it at first but he really was helping his society. (Hephaestus is remembered today because he helped the Ancient Greeks stay alive so they could thrive for years on.) http://concise.britannica.com/ebc/art-89796 |
