Hades By M.D. Hades was one of the great gods of Ancient Greek times and still is today. Hades was the dark soul of the Underworld, son of the great Titans, Cronus and Rhea. Brother of Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Hestia, Demeter, and husband to Persephone. He was thought of as cruel, scary, and dull. He wore red, green, and yellow jewelry to amaze everyone in sight, and had a silver helmet that gave him the power to become invisible if needed. Hades was given the greatest power out of all the gods being able to banish people to the Underworld. Hades had two jobs, the first one was to keep control of his kingdom, and the second was jailing the souls who deserved punishment for eternal life. He had control of the Styx River, which lead to his kingdom, however to get past you needed to pay a fee to the boatman named Charon. If you did not have the money you could not live in the land of Hades, whenever someone died the family would put a coin in their mouth, so that they may go into the kingdom of the Underworld. Hades was very important to the world and especially to the Greek people. He was the protector of the Underworld, reserved the sinning souls, started the changing of the seasons, and became one of the most important gods that ever lived. Hades might have been scary or seemed cruel, but he is the god of the Underworld and preserved the souls that we called our family. http://www.the-pantheon.com/images/cerberus.jpg |
