Dionysus

By T.K.

Many Gods in Greek mythology were used as the explanation of the daily events in the Greek civilization.  Dionysus especially sparked the attention these early people because of his ability to teach about the harvesting of wine, his interesting childhood, and the number of myths about his role in their culture.  Dionysus taught people techniques related to growing the grapes, and later advanced to the making of wine.  As he became more familiar in the society, Greek people began giving him the god titles of fruitfulness, vegetation, warm moistures, pleasure, and finally civilization.  During the course of the common peoples life, they held contests in which the winner would be chosen for the best honoring performance to the gods.  This god had a very unpredictable childhood, but fortunately was cared for and protected by his famous parents in the Greek civilizations, Zeus and Semele.  The birth of Dionysus was risky because his father had to reach out and snag his son from Semele before she fell into Hell.  As Dionysus grew into a kind and understanding young man, Zeus became very content with the god he had created.  When Dionysus created the new drinking source, wine, he sometimes overdid the drinking and entered an unpredictable stage.  Although Dionysus was commonly polite and grateful, as he entered into a drunken period, his actions became violent and thoughtless.  Myths give examples of these events in his life.  Many myths explained his significance to the Greeks, and the adventures of why he became so admired and well known.  In one interesting myth, Dionysus started taking control of grape vines and soon enough figured out a way into making it a liquid.  Using these abilities in public (as used to protect himself from pirates in the myth) common man and women discovered the juice Dionysus was creating with his abilities.  Soon enough, he explained his theory of wine making and the Greeks admired this huge drinking source, which they also used in religious and ceremonial events.  Although Dionysus is an old Greek God, his discovery comes to life in daily events of present people.  This liquid is used today to make money (jobs) and in church-special ceremonies.  Finally, the discovery Dionysus taught how me can use one resource in many ways, leading to more options to meet human necessities.
