The Secret Life of Bees
 By Sue Monk Kidd
This wonderful story sets in 1964 and takes place in two parts of South Carolina, Slyan which begins the story of Lily Owens. Lily has no mother and all she can remember of her mother is the afternoon she was killed. Rosaleen Lily's stand in mother was put into jail one afternoon after pouring spit on a white man's shoe. Lily knows that she has to do something or she will have to spend the rest of her life with her mean dad T. Ray. T. Ray is the meanest person ever Lily says. So while Rosaleen is resting in the hospital from getting her stitches Lily goes in and distracts the policeman by calling him and telling him he has to go back to the station. So Rosaleen escapes from the hospital with Lily. The next chapter of Lily's life happens when she arrives in Tiburon, South Carolina.

One of the best parts of this book is at the end of each chapter when the writer ends in a suspicious way which makes you want to keep turning the pages. I wouldn't want to change one thing about this book, all of it is wonderful and exciting. Some of the strengths of this book were the sentences the author used to describe what was happening in the book. There really wasn't any weaknesses of this book. All of it was fantastic!

This is my favorite paragraph in the whole book. "This is the autumn of wonders, yet every day, I go back to that burned afternoon in August when T. Ray left. I go back to that one moment when I stood in the driveway with small rocks and clumps of dirt around my feet and looked back at the porch. And there they were. All these mothers. I have more mothers than any eight girls of the street. They are the all moons shining over me.'' That is my favorite paragraph because it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, and it makes you want to cry. This is a wonderful paragraph.

I would definitely recommend this book to any one that is willing to read parts of this book over and over again just so you can hear the words that the author used. I would recommend this book because it is a outstanding book and there's nothing better than to read a good book. The ages that would enjoy this book would be 10-and any number above ten, it would be ten because there is a lot of bad words. Somebody that is loving, caring, and understanding, would love this book. But even if your not one of those things you still need to read this book, that is how good it is. I hope you read this book, and I hope you enjoy it.
