| The book I’m reading is called Frindle, by Andrew
Clements. This book is about a boy named Nick who has a lot of ideas.
In third grade one idea Nick had was to make his classroom a beach by
growing flowers and putting sand on the ground. Now Nick is in fifth
grade and he has another idea which is to make up a new word called
Frindle. Nick thinks none should use the word pen but use the
word Frindle instead. Frindle is one of the best books I’ve ever read. A strength in Andrew Clements’s writing is he starts every chapter with a name that will hook the reader into the book. One chapter is called (And the Winner Is.) I like everything Andrew Clements writes because it’s all descriptive. His chapter names are some of the best I’ve ever heard. One quote I like is “Mrs. Granger’s eyes flashed, and then narrowed.” I like that because it’s show not tell. The words creats a strong picture in my mind. Also, I like the name Frindle because it’s an odd word and it’s not a real word. I think it’s cool that Andrew Clements wrote that Nick would replace pen with Frindle. I think this book is good for grades three and up. If you like humorous fiction you’ll love Frindle. I think Andrew Clements did a great job writing Frindle. So did the illustrator Brian Selznick. I really recommend this book for any kind of reader. Frindle is a great story. |
