Vitreous Humor
By Roxanne Leong and Erin Washington
The vitreous humor is a thick, glassy, clear, jell-o-like substance that gives the eye its shape and also makes it feel firm. It is located between the lens and the retina, in the main interior chamber of the eye. The vitreous humor comprises about 2/3 of the eyes total volume. It is composed mostly of water, but its consistency changes over time. With children, the vitreous humor is about the consistency of an egg white, but as they grow older it thins and becomes more liquidy.
