The Snapdragon
Antirrhinum Majus
The snapdragon is a mysterious and beautiful flower who captures the eye of any passer by they are a member of the Scrophularriacea other members of this family range to the foxglove to yellow toad fax. Up to twelve blossoms grown on one snapdragon stalk this stalk can grow up to three feet in height. The snapdragon has five petals which form a tubular corolla that is usually a pink, purple, yellow, or white. Snapdragons can be found through out the Americas and Eurasia in gardens, fields, stony hillsides or climbing walls or rocks. They originated in southwest Europe through today they are more common in Britain where they became popular during the Victorian era. The snapdragon's seeds were highly placed in ancient Balkan and Russian societies where they were used for oil much like olive oil. It is pollinate by a bees and butterflies by attracting them with color. The snapdragon is a truly amazing flower which is a necessity in every garden.
