THE VITREOUS HUMOR

The Vitreous humor is a gel like substance that holds the eye in its shape. It is located between the crystalline lens and the retina and is 80% of the eyeball. It is about 99% water; a network of collagen fibrils, large molecules of hyaluronic acid, peripheral cells, inorganic salts, sugar and ascorbic acid made up the rest of it. The Vitreous humor is used to transmit light after it has entered through the cornea, pupil and lens. As you get older the vitreous humor turns from a gel substance to being more liquid like.
