The lens is a round, transparent structure located behind the pupil and the iris. It is also located right behind the aqueous humor. The lens looks like an oval shaped marble and is a convex type of lens. Surrounding the lens is the ciliary muscle that adjusts the lens so it can take in close and far away light. This muscle stretches and relaxes the lens. When the lens is stretched, it takes in light far away. When the lens is relaxed, it takes in light that is close to the eye.
When someone's vision is poor, this is probably because the lens is focusing light either behind the retina or in front of the retina. The problem with this is that the focal point of the lens is behind or in front of the retina. The focal point is where the image is projected. The image will appear to be blurry because the image is unfocused. Because the focal point is not touching the retina, therefore the part where the image is focused is not on the retina.
