San Francisco Day School seeks to instill in students an understanding of and
appreciation for the cycles and processes of the natural world through an outdoor
education program having the following goals:
Develop in students an attitude of acceptance and appreciation
of the natural world while encouraging the responsible use of the outdoors
and the protection of this vital resource.
Help students and teachers learn to work together in an atmosphere of
enthusiasm, sensitivity, and support while increasing students' self- confidence,
leadership skills, and range of experience.
Train students in basic outdoor skills such as trip planning, navigation,
first aid, and the principles of minimum-impact wilderness living and travel.
Expand students' basic knowledge of ecology, botany, biology, geology,
group dynamics, history, and environmental issues, policies, and problems.
