In the seventh grade, music classes concentrate on building a musical community
emphasizing large group and individual performance. Vocally, seventh graders
focus on using their appropriate singing voices consistently, extending their
vocal ranges and projecting their sound while exploring the choral topics of
diction, vowel placement, and tone production. Additional emphasis is placed
on the changing voice. These skills are practiced as they review and expand
their theoretical knowledge. Important curricular components include odd meters,
bass clef, complex chord progressions, inversions, and pop music forms. The
students will continue to work with technology as they hone their musical skills.
Seventh graders have the opportunity to extend their musical experience by participating
in the Upper School Chorus, instrumental ensembles, and the After School Music Program. Performance practice
and audience etiquette continue to be a cornerstone of the music program; all
students perform throughout the year at assemblies and the evening Soiree.
