Goals and Objectives

Develops a greater understanding of Library Media Center organization, facilities, personnel, and procedures
Identifies, locates, and uses basic reference materials
  • Understands the concepts of hold and reserve
  • Identifies interlibrary loan procedures in San Francisco
  • Locates, identifies, and uses government documents
Develops skill in selection and use of appropriate materials for curricular or independent activities
  • Uses listening and viewing as skills to evaluate materials
  • Uses specialized indexes and dictionaries
  • Uses specialized science, social science, mathmatical encyclopedias
  • Uses community resources
  • Uses San Francisco Public Library resources online
  • Uses a historical atlas
  • Develops criteria for selecting and evaluating materials: currency, accuracy, format, detail, special features, purpose
  • Uses interlibrary loan
  • Locates all materials in the Library Media Center
Develops greater skill in analyzing, interpreting, organizing, and evaluating information
  • Uses subheadings to locate information
  • Compiles information from a variety of sources
  • Understands footnotes and bibliographies as a source of information and documentation
  • Recognizes propaganda techniques
  • Recognizes stereotypes and unethical bias in materials
  • Determines currency and appropriateness of materials
  • Uses critical evaluation in television viewing
  • Observes copyright regulations
  • Distinguishes between relevant and irrelevant data
  • Develops a systematic approach to locating information
Develops greater skill in communication, including the production of oral, written, and visual materials
