Eighth Grade Art

 

Art Appreciation / Artist of the Month

  • Students can discuss the different types of art that exist. They can talk about the various roles that art plays in different cultures.
  • Students can investigate an artist on their own and communicate their understanding to the rest of the class.

Technical Skills / Making Art

  • Students consider themselves artists and act accordingly. They select their materials, themes, and mode of expression.

Understanding of Concepts / Art Vocabulary

  • Students develop artistic questions and problems. These questions reflect a knowledge of the history of art and the multi-faceted nature of art. Through their study of the artist of the month the students have developed a body of knowledge.

Critique / Critical Thinking

  • Students develop independent projects that highlight their artistic strengths and use resources (books, museums, etc.) that they have discovered. They are thoughtful in their process and they work in artist / critic teams.
  • Students develop the sets for the 8th grade play in a grand collaborative experience.

Work Space

  • Students are responsible for bringing in some of their own materials.
  • Students are responsible for developing collaborative strategies.
  • Students are responsible for installing and taking down Gallery 8 (the 8th grade gallery in the art show).
