Students can discuss the different types of art that exist. They can
talk about the various roles that art plays in different cultures.
Students can investigate an artist on their own and communicate their
understanding to the rest of the class.
Technical Skills / Making Art
Students consider themselves artists and act accordingly. They select
their materials, themes, and mode of expression.
Understanding of Concepts / Art Vocabulary
Students develop artistic questions and problems. These questions reflect
a knowledge of the history of art and the multi-faceted nature of art. Through
their study of the artist of the month the students have developed a body of
knowledge.
Critique / Critical Thinking
Students develop independent projects that highlight their artistic
strengths and use resources (books, museums, etc.) that they have discovered.
They are thoughtful in their process and they work in artist / critic teams.
Students develop the sets for the 8th grade play in a grand collaborative
experience.
Work Space
Students are responsible for bringing in some of their own materials.
Students are responsible for developing collaborative strategies.
Students are responsible for installing and taking down Gallery 8 (the
8th grade gallery in the art show).
