Art Appreciation / Artist of the Month
- Students are ready for more detailed information about the artist's
work and life.
- Various techniques used by the artist are stressed.
- Students are learning to internalize concepts about artists and incorporate
them into their own work.
Technical Skills / Making Art
- This is the year when students are developmentally ready to integrate
technical skills with a cognitive understanding of concepts.
- Work becomes more planned, incorporating the fluidity of process work
with a basic understanding of how art concepts effect outcome.
- Formal art tools and technique are stressed as well as an emphasis
on training the eye to see.
- In-depth training using various materials begins to take place.
Understanding of Concepts / Art Vocabulary
- Lessons are taught with art concepts being directly named and stressed
in projects.
- Correct and expressive art vocabulary is expected and encouraged.
- Students are asked to work as art show Docents which crystallizes their
own art knowledge as they educate others.
Critique / Critical Thinking
- Students are asked to determine how the use of various techniques effects
the outcome of an artwork.
- Projects become more challenging with open-ended solutions which students
must independently solve.
Work Space
- Students are given opportunities to motivate and inspire the group.
- Cooperative projects and partnerships are encouraged and explored.
- Students are responsible for reorganizing materials and tools, always
leaving the art studio as they found it.
