Art Appreciation / Artist of the Month
- Students learn that there are many different kinds of artists who work
with a wide variety of materials.
- Students begin to make a connection with and understand the main idea
of an artist's work.
Technical Skills / Making Art
- Projects are structured to encourage a feeling of success.
- Emphasis is placed on processes where the student has the opportunity
to explore the possibilities of the materials introduced.
- Detailed instruction on proper use of materials and tools is given.
Understanding of Concepts / Art Vocabulary
- Students are immersed in the vocabulary related to the art concepts
that are
- being explained and demonstrated.
- Students begin to develop an awareness of art concepts in a work of
art, such as composition, color theory, and technique.
Critique / Critical Thinking
- Students are introduced to basic critiquing and are able to review
work to analyze concepts used.
- Students begin to develop thinking to understand what makes an artistic
work effective.
- Students begin to express what they perceive about a work of art.
- Projects are introduced that have open-ended solutions so that students
must critically think through a course of action.
Work Space
- Students are given a series of demonstrations throughout the course
of class to help hold their focus.
- Materials and tools are distributed to the students at the tables.
- Students are given specific clean-up instructions.
