Nancy Clark
Upper School Head

Nancy holds a B.A. in English and History, as well as her M.A. in American History, from the University of Arizona. She began her career in education as a Peace Corps volunteer, starting a school in a Guatemalan village. Later she became a seventh- and eighth-grade history teacher at Katherine Delmar Burke School, where she taught for nearly 20 years. (Several SFDS parents are among her former students.) She then took a position as history teacher at Lick-Wilmerding, where she also served as History Department Chair, Freshman Class Dean, and Dean of Students. Nancy joined SFDS in 2000 and continues to participate in all aspects of teacher mentoring, curriculum development, and helping parents weather their children's entry into adolescence.

Sue Collentine
Lower School Head

Following study in English at California State University-San Francisco, Sue earned her baccalaureate degree in Journalism and Broadcasting from California State University–Chico. This was followed by a graduate program in education at the University of New Hampshire where she was named to the Dean’s List for Excellence. A plethora of pedagogical studies have since followed: seminars, CAIS workshops, etc.

Sue has taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District and at St. Paul’s School in Oakland. In 1989, Sue joined the San Francisco Day School faculty. Prior to becoming Lower School Head, she worked across the entire school: a grade four teacher, a fifth grade teacher, an eighth grade English teacher and the leader of the Associate Teacher Program. Sue has served on many committees at SFDS, including the education committee, curriculum committees, and is currently co-chair of the Academic Excellence task force.

As Lower School Head, Sue brings a wealth of experience, a strong interest in teaching and in supporting the teaching profession, and a great love of children and schools.

Wendy Singley
Director of Development

After receiving her B.A. in English from Middlebury College, Wendy joined the Peace Corps in Burkina Faso, where she instructed mothers about nutrition, sanitation and caring for their newborns.  Upon returning from West Africa, she worked for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Health Center in the southeast Bronx helping to train community residents for paraprofessional jobs in the medical field.  While working at the health center, she also received an M.A. in Adult and Higher Education from Columbia Teachers College.  She left the health center for Hofstra University Law School, where she received a J.D.

After working for a law firm in New York performing legal services for the elderly poor, Wendy came to San Francisco.  Wendy’s older daughter became a member of the first kindergarten class of the Day School in September 1986. She has two daughters who graduated from the School.  While a parent at SFDS, Wendy worked on the capital campaign to build the present facility.  She turned avocation into vocation when she became development director at the Phillips Brooks School in Menlo Park. In 2002, Wendy departed Phillips Brooks for the Day School, where she is Director of Development.

Carolyn Sasser
Business Manager

Carolyn holds a B.S. in Accounting from Indiana University. She began her career in public accounting with KPMG during which time she obtained her Certified Public Accountant certificate.  She then spent 16 years with Rosenberg Real Estate Equity Funds (RREEF), a firm that invests large pension funds in commercial real estate. As Vice-President of Client Reporting, she was responsible for reporting investment performance to clients.  Carolyn left the corporate world and began her career in the non-profit sector at Children’s Day School.  She served as Business Manager for Children’s Day School for two years prior to arriving at San Francisco Day School in December 1999.  As Business Manager she is responsible for all financial aspects of the school’s operations and investments, administering personnel items and risk management. In addition she oversees facilities management, including maintenance of the property and safety/security.

Linda Talton
Director of Admission

Linda received a B.S. in Human Development at Howard University. Her coursework in child development and work with the Howard University Laboratory School sparked her interest in school administration.  Upon graduation, she was awarded an academic fellowship from Howard University’s School of Education and received a M.Ed. During graduate school, Linda interned with the Head of School at St. Anselm’s Abbey, an all boys independent school in Washington, D.C., before going on to teach first grade at a charter school.  Drawing on her valuable experience as an intern, Linda was eager to return to independent schools and began her tenure as a kindergarten teacher and Director of the Afterschool Program at Cathedral School in New York City.  Upon moving to San Francisco, Linda served as Director of Admission and Placement at Live Oak School prior to coming to the Day School, where she is now the Director of Admission.
