Dear SFDS Community,
Welcome back to school! While it’s hard to believe that the summer is just about behind us, a lot of energy abounds as we embrace new beginnings, reconnect with friends, and build new partnerships.
The Parents Association has a newly focused mission this year: to connect community. We hope to do this by reaching out to and engaging families, staff, and the neighborhood – by nurturing and engaging you in our community! Please have a look at the PA FAQs describing our mission statement and scope.
In the months ahead, we will offer you many opportunities to participate in community-building and thought-provoking events. The PA News will serve to highlight activities and their outcomes. I would like to welcome Mary Kay Melvin as the writer and editor of the PA News and encourage you to contact her with anything you would like to share (marykmelvin@yahoo.com).
To begin the school year, here are some ways to connect to our community:
- A hearty welcome will be yours when you attend our annual welcome coffee on Friday, September 5, from 8-9am in the cafeteria. Join us and enjoy the company of friends as we ring in the new school year.
- Connect to fellow parents using SFDS 411 – our very own parent e-network. This site is a forum to share information, strategies, and insights that can inform us as parents. To join this group, please click here (http://sfds411.ning.com/?xgi=hSytGPW) and sign up. Please note that you must use your actual name (first name & last) when signing on. Special thanks goes to Liz Valadez who will be the first behind-the-scenes moderator!
- Sign up for eScrip! and make your shopping dollars go further to benefit SFDS. Our co-chairs Kathy Louie and Rick Matcovich will be reaching out to you to show you how easy it is to sign up. In fact, just click here (http://www.escrip.com/) to get started (Group ID: 137596750)!
- September’s crowning event is the Fall Picnic, this year chaired by Howard Sackson. Celebrate our community on Sunday, September 21 from 11am-2pm at Old Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park to have fun with family and friends.
- The Day School relies on the parent body to lend their time and talents to ensure the success of school events, community programs, fundraising, and more. Please take the time to read about this years volunteer opportunities online and sign up for one of the volunteer opportunities by downloading the 2008-09 Volunteer Sign-Up form and mailing it in to Dasha Ostrova in the Development Office or emailing it to volunteers@sfds.net.
The officers of the Parent Association are here for you. Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts on how we might better connect community! And don’t forget to volunteer where you can!
