The music department is pleased to welcome our newest staff member, Amanda Hahn. Ms. Hahn is teaching music to Kindergarten and grades 2, 5, and 6. She is also a 6th grade advisor and the director of the Dolphin Singers, the Woodwind Ensemble, and the Beginning and Advanced String Ensembles. We’re so thrilled to have her on our staff at SFDS!
The Advanced Choral Ensemble is off to a running start! Thursday mornings start a little earlier for the 23 singers who get to school at 7:15 to rehearse. We’re very excited for our debut performance at the November 8 Open House!
Ten of our Upper School Chorus members (Hannah Gorman, Lucy Jenks, Karis Kirchgestner, Josiah Corbus, Harrison Louie, Zach Hall, Paige Tripp, Charlotte Halifax, Sophia Dalal, and Jacqueline King) have made and sent audition CDs for the OAKE (Organization of American Kodaly Educators) National Conference. Wish them luck as they wait for the results to be announced in November.
During the summer of 2007, Hugo Kitano attended the Franz Liszt Summer Piano Academy and Festival, held at the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Sopron, Hungary. He performed four concerts in Hungary and Austria. Way to go, Hugo!
Our goal in the music department is to foster life-long musicianship. We are eager to hear about our students’ musical activities outside SFDS. Please drop us a line to let us know about your musical experiences!
