Concert for the Community
By Sophia Dalal
Each year we wait for it. Between the music, dance, stage design and philanthropic objective, Concert For Community holds appeal for everyone. This year’s event showcased an incredible range of talent from Yonaton Zeff’s rhythmic tap to Hugo Kitano’s virtuoso piano performance, to the electric guitar riffs of the 7th grade all girl rock group “The She’s”.
For the first time SFDS alumni returned to share their maturing musical gifts, and the crowd-pleasing and ever-expanding faculty band, “The Red Slips,” squeezed on to an all too small stage to rock the house. The dedicated work of the roadies and tech crew kept the show moving through every unplanned technical difficulty and MCs Sarah Atkinson and Will Danforth kept us laughing throughout it all. |

In addition to the entertainment value of the night, the concert had an even more altruistic purpose. Before the event, grades 5-8 researched and voted on organizations to donate the night’s revenues to. The 6th grade chose to give their portion of the money to Marine Mammal Center and for the first time in C4C history, a consensus between the 5th, 7th, and 8th grades determined that the remaining three quarters of the money would go towards supporting our own Mr. Bool in his effort to fund the building of a school in Afghanistan through the Central Asia Institute.
Through the donations of family members and guests and the hard work of students and volunteers alike, this year’s Concert For Community was a success for everyone involved. A special thank you goes out to Jimmy and Kathy Hormel, Ms. Woolwich, Ms. Otto, and Mr. Herrick, all of whom this well loved tradition could not have possibly continued without.
