San Francisco Day School is seeking four professionals for the School’s Learning Resource Department. These individuals will work closely with the Learning Resource Director and grade level teams in the development of differentiated curriculum, effective instructional methods, and individual educational plans. The Learning Resource Lead Teachers are responsible for facilitating the learning of students with learning differences which interfere with access/processing of the regular curriculum. They will coordinate educational planning with grade level expectations to ensure integration of the School program.
Responsibilities and Duties include:
Services to Students: Collaborate with grade level teaching teams in curriculum development for individual students, small groups, and whole class instruction. Teach small groups within or outside the classroom as indicated. Coordinate and manage grade level screenings for individual, small groups, whole class. Administer tests, provide analysis for faculty and Division Head, and report findings to parents. Administer and/or analyze formal assessments that assist in the development of student’s learning profile and learning curriculum and instruction. Write reports with effective recommendations. Review with faculty, parents, and/or allied professionals the results, and assist in the development of appropriate educational plans. Meet with individual student to discuss evaluation results and effective use of accommodations.
Services to School: Consult and collaborate with grade level team members in developing and implementing teaching strategies for students with learning differences. Attend parent conferences as needed. Collaborate with teachers in observation and assessment of students for instruction and curricular placement and development. Participate in the grade level admission process. Maintain school grade database, keeping all information current regarding educational plan. Distribute information and facilitate understanding of student’s learning needs. Meet regularly with Department Director and Division Head. Meet with curricular coordinators as requested to discuss curriculum and monitor effectiveness.
Services to Families: Provide ongoing case management of students with learning difference. Develop support program; act as liaison between classroom, parents, and allied professionals; act as liaison to Business Office, making recommendation for financial support. Assist families in planning summer programs for enrichment and/or intervention, providing recommendations and acting as liaison with community resources and allied professionals. Attend meetings of Parent Group on Learning Differences.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Education and certification in Educational Therapy or the equivalent in a related field, with emphasis in specific instruction or curriculum development relevant to the field of learning disabilities. A minimum of three years supervised teaching experience and two years of direct work in the field is also required.
The ideal applicant will have good working knowledge of current principles, practices, techniques and objectives of instructional methods, including differentiated instruction; multi-sensory researched-based instruction; current neuro-based instruction; understanding and application of assessment and educational planning successful for students with mild to moderate disabilities.
The individual must have ability to relate well with people; relate to the difficulties and concerns that parents, faculty and the general school community experience related to academic and cognitive differences. The successful candidate must maintain a high level of integrity with regard to matters which may be considered confidential in nature. Ability to work collaboratively is essential.
