Learning Resource Department Director
75% of Full-Time, Non-Exempt position

San Francisco Day School is seeking a Learning Resource Department Director. This individual will work under the general supervision of the Head of School and report directly to the School’s Division Heads. The LRD Director is responsible for the daily operation of the Department as well as long-term oversight and development of planning, scheduling, and curriculum. The LRD Director will coordinate program planning with appropriate parent and faculty groups to ensure academic integration.

Responsibilities and Duties
The LRD Director will meet on a regular basis with the Head of School and School Division Heads and hold department meetings. The LRD Director will regularly meet with area learning resource professionals, attend conferences, articulate the department’s strategies, and set departmental objectives and policies accordingly.

Working with the Business Office to prepare the annual departmental budget, manage department materials and supplies, upgrade the professional library, and develop technology resources is also essential.

The LRD Director will work closely with members of the department in developing curriculum and resources. The successful candidate will assist in coordination of teaching objectives, methods used, and means of assessment used by teachers within the department. Encouragement of professional development and scholarship of individual staff members is also a major function. The LRD Director will also participate in the recruitment of new teaching staff and provide orientation and training.  The LRD Director will supervise assessment processes, including school-wide standardized tests, grade level assessments and admission screenings.

Qualifications
A Master’s degree in Education and certification in Educational Therapy or the equivalent in a related field, with emphasis in instruction or curriculum development relevant to the field of learning disabilities is required. A minimum of five years supervised teaching experience and three years of direct work in the field is also required.

The ideal applicant will have working knowledge of effective instructional methods, including differentiated instruction; multi-sensory researched-based instruction; current neuro-based instruction. Established skills in assessment and educational planning for students with mild to moderate disabilities, is also essential.

The individual must have ability to relate well with people; relate to the difficulties and concerns related to academic and cognitive differences. The successful candidate must maintain a high level of integrity with regard to matters, which may be considered confidential in nature.
